Introduction to the "MK. series"

Video games got me into my (pseudo-)dark ages, which was a time where I didn't build or collect much LEGO stuff, despite that my passion and interest in the brand never faded away. In gaming however, I later found a way to grow back into the hobby, by creating functional models from video games in LEGO form.

It started out with a small project, the Afterlord, in 2012. It gave a good impression of something that's worth doing more often - and it eventually became a line-up of models with the purpose of proving my competence in order to become a future LEGO Product Designer.

From left to right: Afterlord (MapleStory), Hailfire Droid (Star Wars), Constructor (Borderlands 2)

This line-up of models is the "MK. series", a personal way for me to express my worth by pushing the limits of the LEGO building system - showing others what the system is capable of.

After finishing the Afterlord, I evaluated the model over time. As it was a short-lived project of only two months, it's somewhat of a haphazard build. Having a half-baked appearance, flimsy build and a lack of oomph, it left a lot to be desired in terms of quality. For the purpose of becoming a LEGO Product Designer, it's not good enough, as these models need to be more. The only way to achieve that is to keep going at it, until they become as good as it gets.

However, because that kind of design approach is very demanding and time-consuming, these models take time.
I can only spend a few hours on these projects a day, as I need a right balance in work, health and responsibilities.

As of now, only the Afterlord is finished, while the Hailfire Droid and Constructor are work in progress. There are seven more projects planned in this series after that, but those will be in due time. You can read more about each individual project on their respective pages, found on the sidebar to the right on this blog under "LEGO - MK. series".
